Prince Harry - Interview about Telephone Hacking Case
Prinz Harry (39) speaks in an ITV documentary titled "Tabloids On Trial" about the ongoing lawsuits and the phone hacking scandal in the British tabloid press. Chris Ship, ITV News Royal Correspondent, released two photos showing Harry with interviewer Rebecca Barry.
"He tells our reporter why he's fighting to expose what he believes are illegal activities of the British tabloid newspapers", wrote Ship about the images. Additionally, he revealed that actors Hugh Grant (63), singer Charlotte Church (38), and ex-footballer Paul Gascoigne (57) will express their concerns about their privacy being violated by the media in the doc. The doc is set to air on ITV1 and the streaming service ITVX on Thursday, 25. July.
Hugh Grant settles out of court
Prinz Harry is taking legal action against the British tabloid media, including News Group Newspapers (NGN), the publisher of the newspaper "The Sun" and the defunct tabloid "News of the World". In this case, it's about alleged unlawful methods used by journalists and private investigators at NGN to obtain information. The Royal accuses the newspapers of tapping his landlines. In February of last year, he reached a settlement with the British publisher Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN), publisher of the British tabloid "The Daily Mirror", in a phone hacking trial and received a "substantial" compensation. The court ruled that Harry had been illegally hacked.
The Royal stated about the fight against the British press: "Our mission continues. I believe in the positive change it will bring for all of us. That's the real reason I started this project and why I will see it through to the end."
The "News of the World" was closed down in 2011 due to phone hacking allegations. NGN has since settled several lawsuits. Actor Hugh Grant reached an out-of-court settlement with the publisher in April. The case involved the violation of his privacy. Grant accused NGN of hiring private investigators to tap his phone and break into his house. NGN denied the allegations. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
