Inside private sanctuaries: Hotels unveil their most extraordinary in-room request experiences

It seems that guests are becoming more and more demanding, as evidenced by a new report from Hotels.com. This report reveals some of the most unusual room service requests made to its hotel partners worldwide.

Among the oddest requests are an Evian-filled bathtub for a child's bathing routine, a personalized allergen-free menu for a pet, and separate requests for burnt toast, fresh goat's milk, and 2 kilos of bananas.

The report also mentions the demand for a high-five from a hotel staff member as a confirmation that their room service request was received.

In a New York hotel, things took a turn for the erotic during Sexual Health Awareness Month when a "Self-Love Pod" package was introduced. This package included everything one might need for a solo romantic evening. Learn more about it here.

Travellers with questionable ethics

There's a compelling reason to never litter, as a tourist showed when they broke National Park Service rules and dropped a bag of Cheetos in a New Mexico cave. This act caused "world-changing" damage to the fragile microbial ecosystem in Carlsbad Caverns.

Over in Hawaii, the Haiku Stairs, closed since 1987, continue to attract adventurous individuals who risk their lives to visit. Fourteen people were recently arrested for illegally accessing these dangerous stairs, which are not only hazardous to visitors but also threaten the preservation of natural resources.

Flying can be hard on the environment, and waste should be minimized. A disruptive passenger who caused a flight to be diverted last year was made to pay a hefty price, including over $5,000 in fuel costs.

On the Georgia coast, however, there's been some positive "dumping" going on. Two Atlanta metro railcars have been sunk in the Atlantic Ocean and now serve as a home for fish, sea turtles, and coral. They're not even the most unusual items to be found in what's known as Artificial Reef L.

Collisions and cancellations

A Delta CRJ 900 regional jet collided with a Delta Airbus A350 while both were taxiing for takeoff at Atlanta's airport. The regional jet lost its tail section, but all passengers were uninjured and put on alternate flights.

The Villa Vie Odyssey cruise ship was supposed to set sail in May on a round-the-world "endless" cruise, where the sun never sets. However, more than three months later, the first passengers are still stuck at the departure port.

The nine-month itinerary of Royal Caribbean's Ultimate World Cruise was less ambitious, but even it faced challenges. This trip became the center of a social media storm.

A Spanish city is urging British tourists to keep their clothes on.

It's all about "respect and hygiene."

European travelers will have to pay to enter the UK in 2025.

But not their neighbors next door. That's the "luck of the Irish."

She invited a stranger to join her on vacation in Italy.

"It went from zero to 100, really, really quick."

The news about the unusual room service requests made by guests worldwide has sparked discussions about the increasing demands from travellers. In light of this, it's worth considering implementing stricter guidelines for such requests during future travel experiences.

Moreover, the destructive actions of some tourists, like the one who littered Cheetos in a New Mexico cave, serve as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible travel and respecting the natural environment when exploring new destinations.
