Biathlon - Individual winner Rees also misses out on the pursuit
One week after his first career victory, Roman Rees has to miss out again at the end of the Biathlon World Cup in Östersund, Sweden. As the German Ski Association announced three hours before the start, the 30-year-old will not be able to compete in the pursuit.
The Freiburg-born athlete had already missed the relay before, but had competed in the sprint in the meantime. There, Rees competed in the yellow jersey for the first time in his career, but lost the lead in the overall World Cup to his victorious team-mate Philipp Nawrath after finishing 56th. Hanna Kebinger will also not be able to compete in the women's hunt race.
"As Hanna and Roman are still showing moderate signs of infection, we have decided in consultation with the athletes to skip today's pursuit competition," said German team doctor Jan Wüstenfeld: "With the low temperatures, we want to avoid worsening the symptoms so as not to jeopardize next week's competitions in Hochfilzen." In Östersund it was sometimes minus 14 degrees.
