In the realm of German football, Kevin Vogt shatters the Bundesliga's record for the most goals scored throughout a single season.

Nobody in Bundesliga history has had as lengthy a dry spell before scoring again as Kevin Vogt: After nearly a decade, the Union Berlin defender finds the back of the net once more. In a match against Borussia Dortmund, he scores the interim 1:0 following a penalty.

No Bundesliga field player has endured as long a wait for their next goal as Kevin Vogt of Union Berlin. At almost exactly ten years, the 33-year-old central defender scored his first league goal against Borussia Dortmund, netting the interim 1:0 from a penalty. Opta, the data provider, confirmed this during the game. Vogt's last goal was on October 18, 2014, while playing for 1. FC Köln - also against BVB. Opta notes that 275 games separated those two goals.

On April 12 of this year, Vogt set a record with his goal drought. In Union Berlin's 0:2 defeat to Augsburg, Vogt had played his 267th game without scoring a goal, surpassing Dietmar Schwager's record, set from 1964 to 1973, of 266 games without a goal.

Vogt, now a Bundesliga veteran, joined Union from league rivals 1899 Hoffenheim in January, filling the role left vacant by Italian European champion Leonardo Bonucci, who left after half a year. Bonucci, who had spent his entire career in Italy, made seven Bundesliga appearances, scoring once. He also featured in three Champions League games for Union Berlin.

Reports suggest that Vogt's transfer fee amounted to around 1.5 million euros. "Kevin is a player who's brave, capable of leading a team, and will improve our team with his mentality and determination," said sporting director Oliver Ruhnert at the time: "He knows the Bundesliga very well and is eager to join forces with us immediately." For Vogt, Union Berlin marks his sixth Bundesliga club - and his first in years to score a goal. It's his fourth Bundesliga goal overall.

By the way: Vogt's lengthy goal drought is not the only Bundesliga oddity surrounding him. The defender is one of just six players in league history to have played for two different teams in the same matchday. On the 13th matchday of the previous season, Vogt played for Hoffenheim against Gladbach and for Union Berlin against Bayern. The reason was that Union Berlin's game in Munich had to be postponed and was only played after the winter break.

Following his record-breaking goal drought, Kevin Vogt finally found the net once more in a Bundesliga match, scoring the interim 1:0 against Borussia Dortmund from a penalty. Despite joining Union Berlin as a Bundesliga veteran, Vogt's goal against Dortmund was his first league goal in years, showcasing his passion for the beautiful game of Soccer.
