Track and field events - Hussong finishes fourth in javelin throw at European Championships; Heß ranks fifth in triple jump event.

Christin Hussong, former Spear Throw European Champion, placed fourth at the Athletics European Championships in Rome, recording a season-high throw of 61.92 meters. Her recent performance reflects her struggles with health concerns in the past.

The gold medal was claimed by Austrian Victoria Hudson with a distance of 64.62 meters. She was followed by Serbian Adriana Vilagos who threw 20 centimeters less. Norwegian Marie-Therese Obst came in third with 63.50 meters.

Max Heß, who won the title five years ago, took fifth position with a desperation throw of 17.04 meters. Jordan Alejandro Díaz Fortun of Spain clinched gold with an astonishing 18.18 meters, while the British athlete Jonathan Edwards had leaped 18.29 meters in Europe 29 years back.

Former champion Pedro Pichardo from Portugal managed a measly 18.04 meters, securing silver. Bronze was grasped by Frenchman Thomas Gogois with 17.38 meters, narrowly outperforming Heß and nearly missing a personal best.

Berliner Emil Agyekum placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 48.42 seconds. Despite his dissatisfaction with the outcome, Karsten Warholm from Norway continued his dominance with a gold-medal time of 46.98 seconds, making him a triple European champion, Olympic winner, and three-time world champion. Femke Bol from the Netherlands won the women's event in 52.49 seconds.

Mateusz Przybylko, who was European champion six years ago, had a clearance of 2.17 meters, but was forced to retract due to painful foot injury inflicted during his approach. Tobias Potye, the European silver medalist from Munich 2022, was unable to participate due to injury. The host nation's local hero Gianmarco Tamberi sealed the victory at a lofty 2.37 meters.

Italian State President Sergio Mattarella, an Olympic athlete, joined 20,000 spectators in the well-attended Olympic Stadium. Tamberi graciously bowed to the honorary stand before the competition and then commenced his performance.
