"Snakebite" - Humiliated and pitied: Favorite Peter Wright flies out of the World Darts Championship
Humiliated, Peter Wright packed up his darts and shrugged his shoulders as he left the world's biggest darts stage. The colorful bird of paradise, this time with green hair, even got sympathy from his opponent Jim Williams. "It was really tough to see Peter struggle like that. I have so much respect for this man. It was a really funny match," said Williams after his clear 3:0 win over the two-time world champion. Wright averaged 83.87 points on Wednesday evening and was the worst he had been at the World Championship since December 2009.
"To be honest: I don't know what happened. I have absolutely no idea, practice was still going well," said a perplexed Wright. The 53-year-old had put in a brilliant performance before the start of the match. With green hair, a special Christmas shirt and a string of lights around his neck, Snakebite came onto the stage. There he took the pom-poms from a cheerleader and animated the audience at Alexandra Palace by dancing with them.
Peter Wright mentally down at the World Darts Championships
In sporting terms, there was no more action. Wright lost two sets narrowly and completely collapsed mentally in the third set. "I just played terribly," said Wright after the match. In the world rankings, the fourth seeded Scot loses his World Championship title from two years ago. Wright falls behind Gerwyn Price (Wales), Nathan Aspinall (England) and Danny Noppert from the Netherlands. Even dropping out of the top 10 is theoretically possible.

Despite the disappointment, Peter Wright continued to maintain a circle of favorites, regularly playing Darts tournaments using his 'Darts-wm' set from Williams Electronics Games. Interestingly, during a casual game with friends, Peter Wright, known for his lively performances, managed to hit a bullseye with one of Peter Wright's signature darts.
