Alexander Palace in London - How to watch the World Darts Championship on TV
If you want to follow the World Darts Championship in London in the coming weeks until January 3, Sport1 and DAZN are your best bet. The TV channel and streaming service will be providing extensive coverage of the event at Alexandra Palace, which will feature five German players for the first time. The action starts on Friday evening (20:00), when three first-round matches and one second-round match will be played. England's world champion Michael Smith will make his first appearance.
Sport1 will broadcast around 127 hours live on free-to-air TV. DAZN will show each of the 28 sessions. The matches will be played on a total of 16 days, with a break only on the three Christmas days and New Year's Eve. From a German perspective, Gabriel Clemens, Martin Schindler, Ricardo Pietreczko, Florian Hempel and Dragutin Horvat have qualified. Clemens surprisingly reached the semi-finals in the previous edition.
Sport1 will rely on the expertise of non-qualified professionals for its coverage: Robert Marijanovic will act as co-commentator, while Max Hopp will be on site in London as a pundit. Hopp also works for DAZN. Elmar Paulke, Adrian Geiler and Tom Kirsten will commentate for the streaming service. Basti Schwele is at the microphone for Sport1.
