How is the Eberhofer series going on?

The Eberhofer film "Rehragout-Rendezvous", successful with cinema audiences but contested behind the scenes, premieres on TV on Monday.

Detective Rudi Birkenberger (Simon Schwarz) is in a difficult situation. And the deputy mayor Susi (Lisa Maria Potthoff) intends to take her Franz (Sebastian Bezzel) to the police department of the town hall.

Rehrasoup-Rendezvous - How is the Eberhofer series going on?

In this year, there will be no new Eberhofercrimi film in the cinema. With the book "Steckerlfischfiasko" (2023) by author and Eberhofer-creator Rita Falk (60), there would have been a new source material for the now tenth Eberhofer-film in time. However, Constantin Film and the bestselling author have only recently decided on further collaboration.

"Steckerlfischfiasko" in the cinema starts in summer 2026

At the end of June 2024, Constantin Film announced that the first clapperboard for the new installment of the popular series would fall in "Autumn 2025". The statement also read, "Constantin Film and the bestselling author have agreed that their current Eberhofer-crime novel 'Steckerlfischfiasko' should be filmed together again".

After the cinema release of the most recent adaptation "Rehragout-Rendezvous" in summer 2023, there were disagreements. In an interview with "Spiegel", Falk described the film as "unbelievably flat, trashy, and at times even ordinary". The author herself is also quoted in the production's casting call, "There's probably nobody more excited about the new film 'Steckerlfischfiasko' than I am myself. Or as Franz might say, 'look ma, then seng mas scho...!'", so Falk.

However, Eberhofer fans will have to be patient, as Constantin Film announces a "cinema start in summer 2026".

"Rehragout-Rendezvous" on TV

Fortunately, the TV premiere of "Rehragout-Rendezvous" is approaching. The ninth Eberhofer-film will be aired on Monday (22. July) at 20:15 in Erster. In the cinema, it had the most successful start of the series a year ago.

In "Rehragout-Rendezvous", Eberhofer's grandmother (Enzi Fuchs, 87) goes on strike and throws the family into chaos. Papa Eberhofer (Eisi Gulp, 68), Franz (Sebastian Bezzel, 53), Leopold (Gerhard Wittmann, 60), and Susi (Lisa Maria Potthoff, 45) have to fend for themselves.

With even more changes, Dorfpolizist Eberhofer has to deal with his problems when Susi temporarily takes over the mayor's office in Niederkaltenkirchen as deputy mayor and reduces his post, so he can take care of their common son in the future. However, an unexpected missing persons case turns into a complicated murder case, reuniting Eberhofer and Rudi (Simon Schwarz, 53) as a detective duo.

Eberhofer's erotic problem and the unpleasant Gülle-scene

With "unbelievably flat, trashy, and at times even ordinary", author Falk likely described among other things a "masculinity ritual" of Eberhofer and his best friends. This is necessary because Susi's new power position leads to a real erotic crisis for Niederkaltenkirchen's village policeman.

Actor Sebastian Bezzel spoke candidly about this rather uncomfortable topic in an interview with spot on news. "I think it's a great theme. It's one of the reasons I enjoy the Eberhofer series so much. A really serious issue - if someone can't get it up, it's usually a problem in the head - is comically exaggerated in the film."

Another entertaining running gag in the film is the household management at the Eberhofer estate, which collapses because Grandma goes on strike. "This chaos that breaks out at the Eberhofer estate would never happen at my place. I've lived alone for a long time and I can clean. I know how to operate a vacuum cleaner. And not only that, I also know when it should be done," says the family father, who lives in Hamburg with his wife, actress Johanna Christine Gehlen (55, "Die StiNos"), and their two common children.

Once again, Detective Birkenberger will face chaos in "Rehragout-Rendezvous". He won't forget the scenes around the Gullegrube and the fall from the beam, as Simon Schwarz recalled in an interview with spot on news. Both were "quite challenging in a realistic way".

However, the shoot around the Gullegrube was even more extreme. "The shoots over the Gullegrube were not pleasant. The worst part of these two shooting days was the swaying of that huge crane over the pit. The crane was swaying and I was really restrained," recalled the Austrian actor. Of course, he had trust in the crew, but something else was going through his mind: "We didn't have rescue divers on site and the thought that I wouldn't even have been able to try swimming in the Gullegrube because I was restrained was already scary." He added: "The smell was also terrible. And after the 'cut' it still took some minutes until I was freed from this unfortunate situation again." But there was also a small bright spot: "At least we didn't shoot the diving into the actual Gullegrube," explained the busy film and television star.

Rita Falk, the creator of the Eberhofer-series, expressed her dissatisfaction with the film adaptation of "Rehragout-Rendezvous," describing it as "unbelievably flat, trashy, and at times even ordinary."

Constantin Film and Sebastian Bezzel, the actor portraying Eberhofer, are set to collaborate again for the film adaptation of Rita Falk's "Steckerlfischfiasko."

The production of the film adaption of "Steckerlfischfiasko" faced difficulties following the release of "Rehragout-Rendezvous," with Rita Falk, the author, and Constantin Film only recently deciding on further collaboration.

The filming for the new Eberhofer-crime novel, "Steckerlfischfiasko," will commence in the autumn of 2025, as announced by Constantin Film.
