The Pop Diva in Germany - How Adele built her own village for her Munich concerts
When Adele kicks off her Munich summer residency in August, it will be more than just ten concerts – a full Adele World will pop up for a month. The 36-year-old Brit traveled to Munich herself to inspect the construction site and monitor progress, as fans are expected to gather hours before the shows to get in the mood together.
Adele Takes a Page from Taylor Swift's Book
One thing Adele has learned from Taylor Swift and her "Eras" tour is that concerts are more than just 80,000-strong sing-alongs – they're a big, often multi-day family festival under the guidance of the best friend. And true to form, Taylor Swift brought her boyfriend onto the stage in London to introduce him to the big family personally.
It's unlikely that Adele will drag her husband, Rich Paul, to the mic, as the couple kept their wedding a secret. Instead, she'll bring her own Haribo flavor, a Ferris wheel, a pub, and even a farmers market...
Adele's World: A Village for 14,000 Fans
Adele was already cruising around the Munich exhibition grounds in a safety vest with reflective stripes mid-July. Here, not only will the stage be set, but "Adele's World" will also open right next to the concert area. "It's all so damn exciting," she wrote under this image she posted on Instagram.
The Londoner plans to build a real pub as part of her experience world, while her favorite drinks will be served elsewhere. There will be a farmers market, food trucks, a Ferris wheel and carousel, a beer garden, and a small live stage. Fans can meet and get in the mood as early as 3:30 PM on concert days – "Adele's World" has 14,000 seats.
Still, Adele wants to make it "cozy" – cozy – there, revealed stage designer Florian Wieder, who has worked for Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez. "The whole area, from arrival to departure, has a complete Adele DNA and will therefore be an experience for the visitors." Don't forget the small change.
The World's Largest LED Screen
Adele's manager, Jonathan Dickens, says this will be more than just a guest performance: "We're creating a new model for star concerts." To make the performances truly cinematic, they've set up the world's largest LED screen – 200 meters wide, 17 meters high, and designed like a film reel. Additionally, Adele will have a 200-meter-long catwalk and a similarly long loop so she can get as close as possible to the 80,000 fans. Even the climate crisis is essentially factored in: In case heavy rain falls during the four weeks, the grounds have been laid with a special asphalt that is permeable to water.
With the Power of Five Hearts
The new concert model from Adele manager Jonathan Dickens also leaves room for new business models. For the performances, the Haribo corporation has created its own seasonal, regional Adele flavor, which will only be available at the concert. The bag bears the inscription "Haribo Loves Adele" and the song title "For Someone Like You," and inside are red fruit gum and foam hearts in strawberry-lemon flavor. But fans will queue at the stands for the letters on the hearts – if arranged correctly, they spell out the singer's name. Even hits can be written this way.
Rich Paul, being Adele's husband, might make a special appearance in the fans' area, although it's not expected that he'll join her on stage like Taylor Swift did with her boyfriend.
During the construction of Adele's Munich residency, Rich Paul was likely one of the supportive figures behind the scenes, offering advice or assistance in managing the project.
