DFB team - Horst Hrubesch continues as national coach for the time being
Horst Hrubesch remains interim national coach of the German women's soccer team. The 72-year-old will also be in charge of the DFB team at the Nations League final tournament in February. "That's the plan, that I'll still be there," said Hrubesch after the 0-0 draw against Wales in Swansea. The runners-up in the European Championships thus won their group and can still hope to take part in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Hrubesch stepped in at the beginning of October - as he did once before in 2018 - to help out the German Football Association. National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg had called in sick after the World Cup debacle in Australia in the summer and her contract with the DFB has since been terminated.
After Voss-Tecklenburg's assistant Britta Carlson initially took over the DFB women, Hrubesch agreed to coach the remaining four group games in the Nations League. So far, he has only hinted that he will also be in charge at the final tournament. It remains to be seen whether the HSV idol will also be on the bench at the Summer Games if he qualifies for the Olympics.
In Wales, Hrubesch drew with the team after three previous victories and remained unbeaten. In the final tournament with four teams in February, which will be drawn on Monday, two European teams can still win an Olympic ticket. France are seeded as hosts.
