Hertha's Niederlechner sees red after "shitty video evidence"

The spectacular footballers of Fortuna Düsseldorf strike again. After trailing 2-0 in Magdeburg, the Rhinelanders turn the game around and stay in the promotion race. Hamburger SV landed an important victory - also for the mood in the club.

Hertha BSC - VfL Osnabrück 0:0

Relegated first division side Hertha BSC missed out on their third win in a row in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Old Lady struggled to a clean sheet against bottom-of-the-table VfL Osnabrück under new coach Uwe Koschinat. However, this means that Hertha remain unbeaten for the seventh game in a row. Hertha lost Florian Niederlechner to a red card for rough play (85th, after video evidence). The striker reacted with incomprehension and shouted: "Fucking video evidence" as he left for the dressing rooms.

However, with 25 points, Berlin, who had made a weak start to the season, did not continue their race to catch up. Koschinat secured his second point in his third game in charge after his team drew 1-1 with leaders FC St. Pauli last week. Osnabrück also sold themselves dearly at the Olympiastadion. Hertha's superiority in terms of play was offset for a long time by a lot of running and strong tackling. However, the hosts played too timidly in the first half and lacked spirit. Osnabrück were also convincing in the second half with their commitment and dedication. The Berlin attacking machine barely got going.

1. FC Nuremberg - Hamburger SV 0:2 (0:0)

The much-criticized coach Tim Walter got a three-pointer with Hamburger SV in his "final game". The Hanseatic side secured an important victory with a 2-0 (0-0) win at 1. FC Nürnberg. Goal scorer Robert Glatzel (80) and Jean-Luc Dompe (90+7) scored the goals, much to Walter's delight. The Red Shorts had recently suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to SC Paderborn and had lost further and further ground on their rivals in the promotion race in recent weeks. The Hamburg media had counted the soccer coach out. "Walter's job is now at stake," wrote the Hamburger Morgenpost during the week: "Is he still the right man to achieve promotion?" The victory in Nuremberg seemed like a liberating blow.

The visitors from the Elbe had the better chances in the early stages, with Glatzel missing the opening goal when he missed the ball and was unable to take advantage of a great opportunity. Bakery Jatta (33) had another good chance for the North Germans, but was denied by club goalkeeper Carl Klaus. Johannes Geis (27) had the best chance for the club on his feet. However, he only hit the post. Daichi Hayashi (57) was also unlucky with a lob to the crossbar of the HSV goal. Hamburg's William Mikelbrencis hit the rebound against the post. The aluminum saved the visitors from falling behind twice in the space of a few seconds.

1. FC Magdeburg - Fortuna Düsseldorf 2:3 (2:0)

Fortuna Düsseldorf picked up important points in the promotion race thanks to a successful comeback. Coach Daniel Thioune's team fought their way to a 3:2 (0:2) win at 1. FC Magdeburg to close out the first half of the season and remain hot on the heels of the top teams. However, FC St. Pauli and Holstein Kiel are still in action in the remainder of matchday 17. Vincent Vermeij (46') with a goal immediately after the break, Shinta Appelkamp (70') and Vermeij again (75') ensured Fortuna's ninth win of the season. Magdeburg had opened the scoring through Herbert Bockhorn (17) and Xavier Amaechi (37), but then collapsed.

Magdeburg, who failed to move further away from the relegation places, had dominated the opening phase. However, the opening goal was curious: Bockhorn actually wanted to cross, but he hit the ball so luckily that it flew into the goal. Shortly afterwards, Amaechi increased the lead for FCM, who were superior in the first half. Thioune reacted with two changes after the break - and Vermeij started the comeback with his goal. Christos Tzolis (55) narrowly missed the equalizer, but Appelkamp did better. Spurred on by the two goals, Düsseldorf went on the attack but profited from a mistake by Daniel Elfadli, who lost the ball in the build-up to 3:2. Vermeij did not miss the chance.
