Hertha BSC punish HSV just before the end

It seems like another false start into a second division football season for HSV: until just before the end, they lead against Hertha BSC 1:0. But the Hamburgers can't hold on to the lead, late on the capital club scores the 1:1 equalizer.

Hertha BSC has prevented another goalless start to the 2. Bundesliga with a late comeback. The team of new coach Cristian Fiel saved a 1:1 (0:1) draw in the top game at Hamburger SV after a long deficit. This means that HSV missed out on the provisional top spot.

Jonjoe Kenny (86.) secured Hertha's first point of the season. Last year, the Berliners even started the new season with three defeats. The hosts, coached by Steffen Baumgart, took an early lead through Ransford Königsdorffer (11.), who had already scored twice in the 2:1 win at 1. FC Köln.

In front of 57,000 spectators in the sold-out stadium, Hertha initially didn't hide, but the goal put an end to their efforts: Bakery Jatta crossed, Königsdorffer escaped Linus Gechter and headed in from four meters. Afterwards, HSV gradually took control, Ludovit Reis had the chance to make it 2:0 (26.).

After the break, Hertha started well again but didn't capitalize. Gechter almost made amends for his mistake but only hit the left post (58.). Then it happened quickly: Immanuel Pherai hit the post with a free kick (85.), a minute later Kenny equalized.

Hertha BSC's draw against HSV in soccer was a significant turnaround, as they had started their previous season with three losses. Despite taking an early lead through Ransford Königsdorffer, HSV struggled to maintain their advantage and ultimately conceded the equalizer.
