William, a prince, - He discusses Princess Kate's well-being.

After Princess Kate revealed in March that she was battling cancer, updates on her health have been scarce. One confirmed detail is that she's undergoing preventive chemotherapy treatment. Today, Prince William spoke about Kate's condition during an event marking the 80th anniversary of the 'D-Day' in England's Portsmouth.

William Sheds Light on Kate's Health

Responding to a question from a WWII veteran about how his wife was faring, William said, "Yes, she'd have loved to be here." Princess Kate's absence was greatly felt at the gathering held on the British isle. While King Charles III and Queen Camilla made an appearance together, Prince William was the only royal presence without his wife by his side.

During his address at the event, Prince William read aloud a passage from a letter written by a soldier on the day of the Allied landing in Normandy to his spouse. The soldier, Alastair Bannerman, was one of the many who survived the 'D-Day' and the rest of the war. Returning to his family, he shared his experience from that fateful day. "Many didn't," William said, acknowledging the sacrifice of those who perished that day. "Today we honor the bravery of every person who crossed the sea to secure freedom, an event that will remain etched in history."

King Charles also delivered a speech, making it his first public appearance since revealing his cancer diagnosis. He quoted from a speech given by Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery who directed the ground forces of the Allies during that time: "We are fortunate to lead the attack on freedom, an achievement that will endure in history."

Future Engagements

This morning, King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to visit the 'British Normandy Memorial' in French Ver-sur-Mer, marking the first overseas trip for Charles following his cancer diagnosis made public in February. Meanwhile, Prince William will take part in the main ceremony at Omaha Beach in Saint Laurent sur Mer in place of his ailing father. According to reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz are among the attendees at the event.
