Hanks and Spielberg honor D-Day's anniversary.
It's been 80 years since the Allied invasion of Normandy, marking the downfall of Nazi Germany and the conclusion of World War II. In France, this historic event is referred to as D-Day and is commemorated among politicians and celebrities, including those from Hollywood.
Director Steven Spielberg and actor Tom Hanks are currently present in France. They're participating in the celebratory events to honor the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Their collaboration dates back to the 1998 Oscar-winning movie "Saving Private Ryan," which revolves around the events of June 6, 1944—the infamous D-Day.
Additionally, they teamed up for the miniseries "Band of Brothers - We Were Like Brothers" in 2001, in which D-Day played a significant role.
Hanks visited the "Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial" in Colleville-sur-Mer, where he exchanged words with Steven Spielberg. US President Joe Biden also gave an address there. At Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer's Omaha Beach, more than 25 heads of state were anticipated to join a massive international commemoration. The list included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and representatives from European royal families.
