National team - Hamann: Tests in March for national coach Nagelsmann final games
TV pundit Dietmar Hamann believes Julian Nagelsmann's future as national coach is already in jeopardy and has declared the international test matches in March to be the final games for Hansi Flick's successor.
"If they go wrong, Julian Nagelsmann won't be coach at the European Championship. That's not possible, we can't afford that," Hamann said on Sky. The last two international friendly matches before the squad is nominated for the home European Championship are against France and the Netherlands in March.
As Flick 's successor, Nagelsmann has so far been responsible for the international matches against the USA (3:1), Mexico (2:2), Turkey (2:3) and Austria (0:2). Hamann criticized the 36-year-old's actions. "No matter what he does, nothing works. He knows just as much now, if not less, than he did before the four games," said the former Bayern Munich international and Bundesliga professional.
Hamann is particularly displeased with Nagelsmann's choice of personnel, which in his opinion has too few defensive players on the pitch. "How are you going to bring any stability or control to your game? You don't need to be a nuclear physicist," he argued. "You can't build a team around your offense."
