Haas racing team fails with appeal against Austin result
The American Haas team's appeal against the outcome of the Formula 1 race in Austin has quickly failed.
After a video conference with the parties involved, the race stewards of the recent São Paulo Grand Prix decided that the so-called Right of Review, i.e. the new review of possible infringements at the World Championship race in Texas, would be rejected.
The stewards of the Brazil race were responsible for this because the request from Haas in São Paulo was received on Friday last week.
Video footage from onboard cameras
Haas wanted to contest the result of the US race in mid-October on the basis of video footage from onboard cameras. This was to prove that other drivers had violated the track limit, i.e. had left the track with all four wheels without permission, but had not been penalized.
According to Haas, these were Sergio Pérez in the Red Bull, Alexander Albon and Logan Sargeant in the Williams and Lance Stroll in the Aston Martin. All four drivers had finished in the top ten in the race.
German regular Haas driver Nico Hülkenberg finished eleventh and could have moved up to the front if there had been subsequent penalties. Kevin Magnussen finished 14th in the second car of team boss Günther Steiner's team.
Haas' application was rejected because the team was unable to present any new significant and relevant evidence that the racing team could not already have had at the time of the decision on the outcome of the race.
The failure of Haas' appeal against their Austin Grand Prix result in Formula 1 means they cannot challenge the positions of Sergio Pérez, Alexander Albon, Logan Sargeant, and Lance Stroll, who all finished in the top 10 without penalties for track limit violations. This decision was made by the stewards of the São Paulo Grand Prix due to Haas' late submission and lack of new significant evidence, as overseen by the FIA.
