Haaland rejects Arsenal's offer
Manchester City grabbed a solid head start in their quest for a successful Premier League season close: Erling Haaland, who scored in their match against Tottenham Hotspur, dealt a severe blow to Arsenal's chances. City's goalkeeper Ederson, meanwhile, made a mistake.
Kai Havertz's hopes for his adversaries didn't help much: Manchester City took the upper hand in the Premier League championship skirmish courtesy of Erling Haaland. Coached by Pep Guardiola, City emerged victorious from their comeback game against Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-0 (0-0) scoreline, giving them a two-point lead in the league standings above Arsenal FC with fellow German player Havertz in the mix.
With the title race heating up, City can officially seal their win on Sunday against West Ham United at a time of 5:00 pm. Meanwhile, Arsenal must strive to win against Everton FC simultaneously while hoping for City to stumble.
Haaland took the lead in the 51st minute thanks to Kevin de Bruyne's phenomenal setup play. He then capitalized on a penalty kick during extra time, bringing his seasonal goal tally to 27. But the pressure on Manchester City was evident.
German substitute keeper Stefan Ortega, who replaced the injured Ederson in the 69th minute, had a visibly tough time maintaining control and ultimately left the field disgruntled. The defeat sealed Tottenham Hotspur's fate of not qualifying for the prestigious Champions League.
Havertz had promised that he'd cheer for his bitter enemies in an effort to see them win the English championship. "All of us will be Tottenham's biggest fans," he pledged. However, his efforts were in vain. Liverpool FC, managed by Jürgen Klopp, no longer holds any hope of claiming the coveted title.
