King Charles about Prince William - Great speeches in Wales

King Charles (75) and Wales share a decades-long connection. The British Monarch was over 60 years long the Prince of Wales before he passed the title to his eldest son for his accession in 2022. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Welsh Parliament, Charles now traveled to Wales with Queen Camilla (76) to deliver a moving speech at the Senedd. He not only expressed emotional words to Wales but also praised Prince William (42) and his growing bond with the region.

According to British media reports, the former Prince of Wales said to the attendees: "This is a milestone on a journey that I have been able to share with you all my life - in times that were marked by great changes, deep sorrow, and immense successes. My respect and affection for the people of this land have deepened with every year."

He added: "It has given me great pleasure to see how my son's relationship with this special land continues to develop, including his return to Anglesey - Ynys Mon - a place I know means so much to him." Further, King Charles continued: "With countless special memories and great pride, I can join you as we reflect on the last quarter-century of history that we have lived through together and for which you - through your work in this Senedd - bear great responsibility."

In 1958, Queen Elizabeth II (1926 - 2022) bestowed the title of Prince of Wales upon her son Charles at a young age of ten. Over ten years later, in a formal ceremony on 1st July 1969, he was officially introduced as the Prince of Wales into the peerage. In total, Charles held the title for over 63 years. During his accession in September 2022, he finally passed it on to his eldest son Prince William and his wife Princess Catherine (42).

William seems to value Wales just as much as his father: He lived with Catherine during his service as a search and rescue pilot at RAF Valley from 2010 to 2013 on Anglesey. On Tuesday (9th July), he visited his old base and his former flight instructor, as photos on Instagram show.

King Charles spoken fondly about Prince William during his speech, praising his growing bond with Wales and mentioning his return to Anglesey. This was a significant moment for Prince William, as he spent part of his military career in Anglesey and still holds the region in high regard.

In his speech, King Charles also reflected on his decades-long connection with Wales, expressing his respect and affection for the people and the land. This is a sentiment shared by Prince William, who spent time in Wales during his service as a search and rescue pilot.

Furthermore, King Charles acknowledged the work of the Welsh Parliament in shaping the last quarter-century of history, a responsibility they bear with great pride, much like Charles and William have for Wales and their roles as the Prince of Wales.
