Russell Crowe Turns News Aggregator Into Actor - "Gladiator 2" doesn't seem promising.
The movie production for "Gladiator 2" is advancing, and the Daily Mail recently unveiled the first set snapshots featuring the lead actor, Paul Mescal (28), in his complete attire. However, one individual harbors reservations about the sequel—Russell Crowe (60), the original's star from 2000. In a recent interview with Kyle Meredith, Crowe expressed his reservations.
"I'm a bit hesitant about the fact that they're making another film," he said casually. Despite his character, Maximus, being deceased and unrelated to the sequel, he heard rumors about plot developments that "don't align with the moral framework" of his character.
Crowe didn't elaborate on the details. He also can't make a judgment. "All I see are the carrots from the ground," he said, referring to his dead Maximus, "We'll see how it unfolds."
Russell Crowe's Envy for "Gladiator 2"
Russell Crowe confessed that he experiences a "whiff of envy" when he reflects on "Gladiator 2." A sense of somber nostalgia. Because then he recalls the time, about 25 years ago, when he starred as Maximus Decimus Meridius in "Gladiator." He considers the film a turning point, opening numerous doors for him.
Crowe received an Academy Award for Best Actor for his roles in "Gladiator." The film catapulted the New Zeland-native into Hollywood stardom. However, his fame has waned over time. Crowe now relies on lesser-ranked movies to sustain his career. Recently, he was nominated for a Razzie Award as the worst actor for "The Pope's Exorcist."
Paul Mescal, Crowe's successor in "Gladiator 2," also shares concerns. The Irishman fears the potential stardom that comes with the role. This daunting thought leaves Mescal "depressed." "Then I would be perceived differently than who I am, and I don't want that," he told the Sunday Times. He added, "Then I would just be bored."
"Gladiator 2" is slated for a November 14, 2024, release in German cinemas. We'll discover more then.
