Tickets and dates - Germany's opponents have been determined: What fans need to know for the European Championship this summer
The lots have been drawn and the European Football Championship is taking shape for Julian Nagelsmann after the show at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. Together with DFB sports director Rudi Völler, the national coach is starting to plan the tournament run-up. Fans will also have to act quickly if they want to attend the matches live in the stadium in summer 2024.
How can I get tickets for Germany's European Championship matches?
10,000 tickets per match are reserved for German fans. The same contingent will also go to fans of the teams from Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland. The DFB will distribute the tickets for German fans in three ways from Monday. The largest share will go to members of the "Fan Club Nationalmannschaft". For the first time, however, other fan clubs could also be founded and apply for tickets from the DFB via these clubs. Anyone who has applied for a tournament registration with the DFB by last Thursday can also use this to apply for tickets. Speed is also of the essence. The principle of "first come, first serve" applies. Details can be found here.
Are there other ways to get tickets for the European Championship?
Uefa is also opening its ticket portal once again. Until December 12 (2 p.m.), you can even apply online for tickets for all 51 matches - including the final on July 14 in Berlin. However, Uefa does not indicate on its portal how many tickets are still available for each match. The tickets will be drawn in January. Information can be found here.
Those who are not lucky can still hope for a return exchange where unpaid or unused tickets are offered. Last-minute bargains are also still possible until the start of the tournament.
What will Julian Nagelsmann do until the European Championship?
Now the hot planning begins for Nagelsmann, Völler and the entire DFB staff. After the disappointing tests against Turkey (2:3) and Austria (0:2), the national coach has already announced drastic measures for his players, without going into detail.
Organizationally, it looks like this: In March, the test matches in Lyon against France and against the Netherlands, probably in Frankfurt, are practically fixed. In mid-May, presumably shortly before the Bundesliga final on May 18, Nagelsmann will name his tournament squad, and the national coach must finally register his 23 European Championship players with Uefa by midnight on June 7.
The search for a location for the training camp, which will probably begin in the week after the DFB Cup final (May 25), is in the final planning phase. Donaueschingen and a hotel near Weimar are considered options. Preparing at the European Championship quarters in Herzogenaurach was probably just a brief thought experiment. There will be two more test matches during the preparations, for which opponents are now being sought. If possible, they should offer blueprints of the soccer culture of the first three European Championship opponents. The DFB should announce these key points of the European Championship plans before the end of the year.
How is the tournament going for the DFB team?
Nagelsmann and his players must move into their European Championship quarters no later than five days before the first tournament match, i.e. on June 9. This is stipulated by Uefa regulations. As in 2021 and 2022, the DFB stars will spend the summer at the so-called Home Ground of equipment supplier Adidas in Herzogenaurach. The infrastructure is tried and tested and the national coach also likes the location. From there, the distances to the three group matches in Munich (June 14/Scotland), Stuttgart (June 19/Hungary) and Frankfurt (June 23/Switzerland) are short. In each case, the journey to the venues begins the day before the game.
How would Germany fare in the knockout round?
If Germany wins the group, they will face the runner-up from Group C in the round of 16 in Dortmund on June 29. This could be England, Denmark, Slovenia or Serbia. The tournament route would then lead via Stuttgart (July 5/possibly against Spain) and Munich (July 9) to the final in Berlin on July 14. As group runners-up, the first knockout match (June 29) would be against the runners-up from Group B, i.e. Spain, Croatia, Italy or Albania. In the best-case scenario, Germany would then travel to Berlin via Düsseldorf (July 6) and Dortmund (July 10). If Germany progress as one of the four best third-placed teams in the group, three different knockout rounds are possible.
