Germany's handball star shakes up the Bundesliga

He is one of the pillars of the German Handball National Team: Andreas Wolff. From now on, the goalkeeper will also play in the Bundesliga again. The 33-year-old is returning to his former workplace, THW Kiel.

Sensational Handball transfer: THW Kiel has perfectly managed the return of goalkeeper Andreas Wolff. The 33-year-old is switching from Industria Kielce back to the Förde and will receive a contract with the Zebras until summer 2028. Ex-European champion Wolff had already stood in Kiel's goal from 2016 to 2019.

"I'm really looking forward to my return to Kiel. I know the city, the club, a large part of the team and the special fans. That will make the new start easier for me," Wolff said: "All those who have worked so hard to make this return possible have given me the feeling that I'm doing the right thing."

In April, there were already rumors of a Bundesliga return for Wolff, but at that time, SC Magdeburg was considered the candidate. At the end of June, the NDR reported that the keeper would come to Kiel. With THW, Wolff has won the DHB-Pokal twice. THW sports manager Viktor Szilagyi had dismissed the news at the time as a "current false report." Now, the 45-year-old Austrian said that it was "no easy feat" to bring the transfer under one roof: "Everyone in the handball world knows what qualities Andreas has." With the German National Team, Wolff won the European Championship in 2016 and the Bronze Medal at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

After the Olympics in Paris, Wolff then wants to win more titles with the Kielers. "This is my hometown, and I want to challenge myself week for week with the best teams in the world," he said: "I love the pressure you have at THW Kiel and in the strongest league in the world. Measuring up to the best in every game will make me even stronger."

At THW, where the team finished disappointingly in fourth place in the Bundesliga last season, there are currently two other goalkeepers under contract: the Czech Tomas Mrkva and the French Samir Bellahcene. In addition, Spanish national keeper Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas is switching from FC Barcelona to THW for the 2025/26 season.

Andreas Wolff's return to handball will see him play for THW Kiel once again, following his stint in Poland with Industria Kielce. His passion for the sport and the team is evident as he stated, "I love the pressure you have at THW Kiel and in the strongest league in the world."

In his brilliant handball career, Wolff has won numerous titles, including two DHB-Pokals with THW Kiel and the European Championship in 2016 with the German National Team.
