German world champion extends NBA series in spectacular fashion

The Los Angeles Clippers deliver a record game at the Indiana Pacers, the Pacers go down in a frenzy of points from the title contenders led by superstar James Harden. German center Daniel Theis can celebrate a successful return to his former team. And then there's Isaiah Hartenstein's best score.

Basketball world champion Daniel Theis has also won with the Los Angeles Clippers against his former team, the Indiana Pacers, and extended the longest winning streak in the NBA. The 151:127 was the eighth win in the last eight games for the Clippers. The 31-year-old scored four points, grabbed nine rebounds and made two blocks in 22 minutes against his former colleagues. James Harden scored 21 of his 35 points for the Clippers in the final quarter - and became the tenth player in club history to sink eight or more threes in a game with eight in eleven attempts.

Theis was only traded from the Pacers to the Clippers in mid-November and has only lost three games in that time. In Indianapolis, Theis was "not happy" about his role as a supplemental player, as he said. In the first phase of the season, Theis, who had returned to the NBA as a regular center for the world champions, only made one appearance.

By halftime, the Clippers had already put 77 points on the scoreboard against the second-worst defense in the league - more than ever before this season. Only three times in their history have the Clippers scored more than 151 points in a game. The Pacers were still 51:46 in front midway through the second quarter. For the Pacers, the defeat means an unpleasant return home: the team had previously had to play six away games in a row and the twelve-day trip took the Pacers through three different time zones.

Pacers in trouble

Rick Carlisle was angered by the severe thrashing: "Our attitude, if we're just trying to score more points than other teams and no longer focusing on defense, has to change," said the Pacers coach and threatened his players: "If that means we have to make massive changes to our lineup, then that's what's going to happen."

Meanwhile, Theis' buddy Dennis Schröder and the Toronto Raptors recorded a 114:99 win against the Charlotte Hornets, who gave up an eleven-point lead without Miles Bridges and three other regular players. The Raptors won the final quarter 35:18. Bridges was not allowed to enter Canada because of his criminal record. He is currently on probation for domestic violence.

Isaiah Hartenstein has underlined his bid for a place on the German national basketball team with a new career best. In his New York Knicks' 114:109 away game against the Los Angeles Lakers, the 25-year-old plucked 17 rebounds - the most he has ever grabbed in the NBA. In 39 minutes of playing time, Hartenstein, who had managed 16 rebounds twice in the best basketball league in the world, scored nine points.

The next outstanding performance by Luka Dončić was once again not enough for the Dallas Mavericks to win. The Mavericks lost 104:130 against the defending champions Denver Nuggets, despite the Slovenian scoring 38 points and grabbing 11 rebounds and Nikola Jokić having a poor evening by his standards for the Nuggets with just eight points.
