German NHL star dropped from the squad
At the end of last season, national ice hockey player Lukas Reichel experienced his strongest phase in the NHL. The 21-year-old from Nuremberg is unable to build on this this season - and receives a clear message from his coach Luke Richardson.
National ice hockey player Lukas Reichel has received a resounding warning from his coach in the NHL and has been dropped from the Chicago Blackhawks' squad for the game against the Minnesota Wild. "He's certainly disappointed, but we need more from him," coach Luke Richardson said, according to the local Chicago Sun-Times newspaper.
"We mentioned that he should take advantage of it when opportunities like that come up, like (Anthony) Beauvillier not being available today. So we're disappointed as well." New signing Beauvillier was not allowed to play due to a missing visa. "Sometimes a little push helps to get a player rolling," said Richardson.
After a strong final phase last season with 15 scoring points in 23 games, the 21-year-old Reichel has yet to impress this season. He has just six points in the first 22 games. At times he played in the first line alongside top talent Connor Bedard, where he also struggled. His ice time has decreased as a result, and he only played 11:29 minutes against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. On Sunday, the pro, who was selected by the Blackhawks in the first round of the 2020 draft, had to watch the 4-1 loss to Minnesota from the press box.
The injured international Nico Sturm also did not play in his San Jose Sharks' 5-6 loss to the NHL-leading New York Rangers. World Championship runner-up John-Jason Peterka played for the Buffalo Sabres, but was ineffective in the 2-1 loss to the Nashville Predators.

Lukas Reichel, the NHL star from Germany, has been struggling this season with the Chicago Blackhawks. Despite a strong finish last season with 15 points in 23 games, he has only managed six points in the first 22 games this season, leading to reduced ice time.
The issue came to a head during the Blackhawks' game against the Minnesota Wild, as Reichel was dropped from the squad for the match and had to watch from the press box. This comes as a stark contrast to his strong performance in the NHL at the end of last season.
