German doubles cause a sensation at Wimbledon

For several days, bad weather in London has led to waiting times and schedule disruptions. Due to scarcely possible tennis play outdoors, the Wimbledon doubles team of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz have had their match moved to the second largest covered court.

In rainy London, the German Olympic doubles team of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz find themselves in the Wimbledon quarterfinals once again. They defeated American tennis pros Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow 6:3, 6:4 to advance as the second German pairing into the round of the last eight. Next up for the team is a challenging match against the seventh-seeded Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos (Spain and Argentina). Surprisingly, Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens made it to the quarterfinals as well.

Since playable tennis has been scarce outdoors, Krawietz and Puetz's match was moved to the second largest covered court. Such a scheduling arrangement is less common for earlier doubles rounds. Laura Siegemund had the honor of playing on Centre Court, and she and the Czech Barbora Krejcikova advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6:1, 6:2 win against Hao-Ching Chan from Taiwan and Veronika Kudermetova from Russia.

For several days, the recurring rain has disrupted the tournament schedule. Matches on the outer courts will begin at 10:30 local time (11:30 CET) on Wednesday, half an hour earlier than usual. The Wimbledon organizers also moved the final of the Mixed Doubles competition back by three days. Instead of taking place on Thursday, the Mixed title will now be awarded on Sunday, the organizers announced. The competition began on the previous Friday, and only 15 of the 32 first-round matches had been completed by Tuesday.

Krawietz is competing in the second round of the Mixed Doubles with his Russian partner Alexandra Panova. The tennis duo ended Siegemund and US-American Austin Krajicek's hopes in the first round.

Despite the persistent bad weather at Wimbledon, Krawietz and Puetz continue to excel in the sport, advancing to the quarterfinals. Due to the weather conditions, their match was relocated to the second largest covered tennis court at Wimbledon, a less common occurrence for earlier rounds in the doubles tournament.
