Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman Star in Upcoming Film. - Gathering together as "Magical Sisters"?

Gillian and Sally Owens, best known as "The Wonderful Sisters," are making a comeback. Warner Bros. has confirmed that a sequel to the enchanting comedy is currently in production. Warner Bros. stated, "The wonderful sisters are back! Get ready for 'Wonderful Sisters 2' coming soon!"

It's not yet certain whether Sandra Bullock (59) and Nicole Kidman (56) will reprise their roles as the magically gifted sisters. However, various sources, including "Variety," indicate that both actresses are in discussions to rejoin the cast. Additionally, they may also produce the film.

According to reports from American media, Akiva Goldsman (61) is set to write the script for "Wonderful Sisters 2." Goldsman, who received an Oscar in 2002 for "A Beautiful Mind," was also involved in crafting the original film, which was released in 1998. The script was an adaptation of Alice Hoffman's (72) novel, "In the House of the Witch," published in 1995.

The Original Wonderful Sisters Plot

"Wonderful Sisters" followed the story of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as they played the gifted but cursed Owens sisters. The family curse dictated that every man who fell in love with an Owens woman met a tragic end. Sally (Bullock) vowed never to fall in love, while Gillian (Kidman) defied the curse and yearned for a romantic partner. At a certain point, the sisters accidently killed Gillian's abusive lover, but his spirit persisted, desperate for life.

The initial reception to "Wonderful Sisters" was lukewarm, but it has since gained a loyal fanbase who enjoy it during Halloween.

Previous Attempts at Series Expansion

This isn't the first time that the world of "Wonderful Sisters" has attempted to be expanded. Back in 2019, HBO Max planned a prequel series, with the plot set in the 1960s. However, this project was ultimately cancelled.

With recent popularity for reviving characters from films over 20 years old, it's no surprise that "Freaky Friday - A Totally Insane Friday" (2003) is getting a sequel with the original stars Jamie Lee Curtis (65) and Lindsay Lohan (37). Additionally, Eddie Murphy (63) is making his return as "Beverly Hills Cop."
