Harry Kane and FC Bayern showed Borussia Dortmund no mercy.

Furious FC Bayern mercilessly takes BVB apart

FC Bayern Munich made a statement after the cup defeat and distanced Borussia Dortmund for the time being. Three days after the sensational defeat at third-division side 1. FC Saarbrücken, the record champions won the classic at their arch-rivals 4:0 (2:0) after a convincing performance and remain two points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen. Dayot Upamecano (4th) and Harry Kane (9th/72nd/90th+3), who took his tally to 15 goals in ten Bundesliga games, scored for the visitors and inflicted Dortmund's first defeat in the league since April 1. Back then, BVB, who had been waiting five years for a Bundesliga win against Bayern, lost in Munich on coach Thomas Tuchel's debut. The runners-up are now seven points behind Leverkusen.

German coach Julian Nagelsmann had just taken his seat when the wide-awake and apparently still furious Bayern took the lead. Upamecano, on his comeback after weeks out injured, headed in a Leroy Sané corner from close range. Nico Schlotterbeck had lost sight of the Frenchman, with goalkeeper Gregor Kobel also staying on his line. The lead played into the visitors' hands in front of 81,365 spectators, and they went on to add to their tally. Kane finished off a fine combination via Leon Goretzka and Sane. The powerful Sane had initiated the attack with a back-heel.

Munich then controlled proceedings with plenty of possession. The recently fragile defense was mostly attentive, with Goretzka and Konrad Laimer dominating the central area. And BVB? Looked unsettled, made mistakes and acted hesitantly. Julian Brandt's shot from distance was the only attempt on goal for a long time (23'). Niclas Füllkrug was mostly out of the picture and Marco Reus also struggled in his 400th competitive match for BVB. However, Bayern were now also producing less and less in attack. Goretzka tried his hand artistically (36'). The hosts almost got back into the game shortly before half-time. But Donyell Malen narrowly missed from a good position in stoppage time after a mistake by Munich.

BVB coach Edin Terzic brought on Niklas Süle for Marius Wolf after the break - but the game did not change at first. Jamal Musiala failed to clear Kobel (46'), a minute later Nouassir Mazraoui shot into the clouds from nine meters after a corner. The game got wilder after that. BVB developed more pressure, with Reus failing to beat Manuel Neuer (56') and Kobel saving from Sane (58'). Dortmund now increased the risk more and more, especially as the reliable Upamecano went off after just under an hour and was replaced by the young Aleksandar Pavlovic. Goretzka moved into central defense. The tense question now was: would Bayern decide the game thanks to the counter-attacking opportunities that presented themselves or would BVB come back? Kane answered it.

  1. After the victory, FC Bayern Munich's coach, Edin Terzic, praised the performance of Thomas Müller, who contributed significantly to the team's attack against Borussia Dortmund in the Soccer Bundesliga.
  2. Despite Thomas Tuchel's absence, Borussia Dortmund's struggle against FC Bayern Munich in the Soccer Bundesliga was reminiscent of their previous defeat at the hands of the record champions, which occurred during Tuchel's debut season.
  3. In the upcoming Soccer Bundesliga matches, FC Bayern Munich's forward, Thomas Müller, and his teammates will aim to maintain their momentum and close the gap between themselves and league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, with key battles against rival clubs like Borussia Dortmund on the horizon.
