Füllkrug is looking forward to the European Championship ball: "Flying differently"
Niclas Füllkrug could possibly even write a scientific paper on soccer as a playing tool.
"Balls are underestimated. It's very important which ball you play with or how the ball is played," said the 30-year-old. The prospect of being able to train with the 2024 European Championship version for the first time with the national team certainly delighted the Dortmund center forward.
"Brands are already different"
"The Adidas balls are often quite similar in design, often have a similar flight curve and similar behavior on the pitch. But the individual brands do differ," said Füllkrug. Füllkrug believes that his former Bremen colleague Marvin Ducksch, who was sitting next to him at the DFB press conference, has a similar view.
"As a free-kick specialist, Duckschi will also confirm that it makes a difference whether you're playing with a Derbystar, Adidas or Nike ball. They fly differently," said Füllkrug. The new European Championship ball will be presented at 9 a.m. at a sponsor event in Berlin's Olympic Stadium, the venue for the European Championship final on July 14.
Neuer also at the presentation
In addition to tournament boss Philipp Lahm, Manuel Neuer will also be there. The goalkeeper, who wants to play for the national team again next March after his long injury break, is naturally also particularly interested in the ball's flight characteristics.
The DFB team will use the ball for the first time late this morning at the next training session in preparation for the European Championship test matches against Turkey on Saturday and three days later in Austria on the campus in Frankfurt - including goals from Füllkrug and Ducksch.
Niclas Füllkrug expressed excitement about training with the European Championship ball for the first time with the national team, mentioning the DFB. He also acknowledged the difference in flight characteristics between different soccer ball brands, referring to Marvin Ducksch and his preference for Derbystar balls.
