Powerwolf - From metal band to mass phenomenon
Fans of Powerwolf have something to look forward to: On July 26, the Heavy-Metal band fronted by singer Attila Dorn (53) will release their new album "Wake Up The Wicked" to the market. Their first work since the 2021 released "Call of the Wild" will once again be published by Napalm Records. The band from Saarbrücken announced earlier that they would allow new influences for their new songs. The album will be "hard, surprising and full of variation". However, the Powerwolf members Dorn, Charles (48), Matthew Greywolf (46), Falk Maria Schlegel (48), and Roel van Helden (43) will remain true to their core concept: the combination of catchy melodies and engaging lyrics.
Due to this successful recipe, the band has been attracting a much larger audience than most other bands in their genre for years. The secret to Powerwolf's success: fascinating stories that come to life visually on stage and in music videos. The band particularly enjoys working in the context of religious history and the contrast to myths and folklore. However, Powerwolf is always important: historical evidence, whether the story is true or only parts of it and the rest is in the realm of false reporting or superstition.
"1589" deals with the incredible story of Peter Stump
The song "1589" was already released a few weeks ago - inclusive of an extravagantly produced video. The text deals with the mysterious "Werwolf of Bedburg": Peter Stump, a farmer who lived in the Rhineland in the 16th century, was accused of being a werewolf and committed heinous acts. Under torture, he confessed to the murders and was executed in a bestial manner. To this day, it is unclear whether Stump actually committed the crimes attributed to him. For the video of "1589", the band traveled to England to stage the morbid story in dark forests.
Furthermore, Powerwolf fans have already enjoyed the song "Sinners of the Seven Seas" - also inclusive of a video. The focus of the recordings was a historical replica of a famous three-master from the first world circumnavigation of Magellan in the 16th century. This replica served not only for video recordings but also as a filming location for several films and series.
World tour in the starting blocks: First North America, then Europe
After the release of the new album, Powerwolf will then embark on their first complete North American tour between August 29 and September 15. They will perform in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and other cities. The first concerts are already sold out. Subsequently, Powerwolf will nearly seamlessly start their large-scale European Arena Tour "Wolfsnächte 2024" on October 4 with their concert in the Hamburg Barclays Arena. Performances in European metropolises such as Amsterdam, Milan, Zurich, Paris, Budapest, Vienna, and Prague follow. In Germany, Powerwolf will perform not only in Hamburg but also in Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Oberhausen, Berlin, and Munich.
Powerwolf was founded in 2004 and have built up a growing fan base over the years, which now extends far beyond a hard core of classical metal fans. The reasons for their great success are mainly their spectacular stage shows and videos, as well as their powerful, emotional sound, combined with the unmistakable voice of frontman Attila Dorn. Due to their mostly English-language texts, the attention of the foreign market has been increasingly drawn to Powerwolf in recent years, which has brought the band increasingly international successes.
A major charter success seems certain for Powerwolf with their latest work as well. At least some of their last shows stormed to the top of the German album charts. Their first number-one success was already in the year 2013 with the album "Preachers of the Night", and "The Sacrament of Sin" from the year 2018 also made it to the top. And their most recent live album "The Monumental Mass - A Cinematic Metal Event" from the year 2022 also reached the summit.
