French team leader Kylian Mbappé dons tricolor facemask during practice following nose fracture at Euro 2024 tournament.
It appears there was concern that an injury might sideline Mbappé from France's Group D clash against the Netherlands in Euro 2024 on Friday. However, Deschamps, the French manager, shared that Mbappé should be good to go.
"Things are moving in a positive direction following this significant setback he experienced," Deschamps stated, according to Reuters.
Mbappé suffered a broken nose during the 86th minute of the previous game. In an unintentional incident, he headbutted Austria defender Kevin Danso while vying for the ball. Mbappé eventually had to exit the game, his jersey stained with blood as he made his way through the tunnel.
The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed that Mbappé was transported to a hospital after the match for X-rays, which revealed the broken nose.
On Wednesday, Mbappé participated in non-contact training while wearing nose Band-Aids. On Thursday, he sported a personalized mask, adorned with his initials.
"Kylian is doing well. The swelling on his nose has subsided," France forward Antoine Griezmann reported, also from Reuters. "We'll reassess at the last minute, depending on how he feels."
The Netherlands also emerged victorious in their opening Group D match, seeing off Poland 2-1.
