Europa League - Freiburg's Gregoritsch after hat-trick: "Wonderful evening"
After his goal gala in the Europa League, Michael Gregoritsch from SC Freiburg was relieved. The treble in the 5:0 (4:0) win against Olympiakos Piraeus in the Europa League was his first goal of the season.
"Everyone knew how much this kind of thing affects me," said the 29-year-old attacker, looking back on his 14-game slump. "But the way the squad jumped at me when I scored my first goal shows that I'm in the right place here."
The Breisgau team, who have been winless in the Bundesliga for four games, will continue their unbeaten run on Sunday (15:30/DAZN) at FSV Mainz 05. Gregoritsch, however, wanted to enjoy the evening first. "Sometimes you don't know why things go in, and sometimes you don't know why they don't. But for me it was a wonderful evening that I won't forget." Only for the U21 national team had he managed a flawless hat-trick before, said the Austrian.
In the clash with the team from Rheinhessen, Freiburg are likely to be challenged more than they were by the disappointing Greeks. "We know what we have to do there. We have to give 100 percent. An evening like this is very important for us for the next few games," said Gregoritsch, who scored once with his foot and twice with his head against Piraeus. He also set up Kilian Sildillia's goal to make it 4:0 at the interval.
