Fortuna loses in chasing duel - Hansa wins at FCM

Second-division soccer team Fortuna Düsseldorf was unable to take advantage of another away slip-up by Hamburger SV and missed out on a promotion place.

On Sunday, coach Daniel Thioune's heavily depleted team lost 0:1 (0:0) at SpVgg Greuther Fürth and conceded their second defeat in a row. Robert Wagner (48th minute) scored the winning goal for Fürth, who now drew level with Fortuna on 21 points. Thioune is currently missing half a dozen injured or suspended regular players.

This means that after 13 games, a quintet (Düsseldorf, Fürth, Nuremberg and promoted teams Elversberg and Wehen Wiesbaden) are three points behind the direct promotion places. Second-placed HSV (24) lost 2:4 at new third-placed Holstein Kiel (23) on Saturday.

Wehen Wiesbaden still on the advance

SV Wehen Wiesbaden are also on the rise, having turned around the neighborhood duel against 1. FC Kaiserslautern and won 2:1 (0:1). Marlon Ritter (39) gave Lauter the lead, but Thijmen Goppel (51) and Ivan Prtajin (65) scored from a deflected free-kick.

Hansa Rostock secured their first win since the end of September with a 2:1 (0:1) win at 1. FC Magdeburg to move slightly clear of the relegation zone. An own goal by Magdeburg's Connor Krempicki (86') allowed Hansa coach Alois Schwartz to finally celebrate again.

Magdeburg had already equalized thanks to a serious goalkeeping error by Dominik Reimann on Dennis Dressel's long-range shot (46'). Herbert Bockhorn (4) had scored for the hosts. Magdeburg, 14th in the table and winless since October 1, are level on points (13) with Karlsruhe and third-bottom Schalke 04.

Hansa Rostock won the East German duel in Magdeburg.

Despite Fortuna Düsseldorf's opportunity to close the gap on Hamburger SV, they suffered a disappointing 0:1 loss in the Bundesliga 2 duel against SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Meanwhile, Hansa Rostock managed to secure their first win in over a month, triumphing 2:1 against 1. FC Magdeburg in the Bundesliga 2, with Hansa now narrowly escaping the relegation zone in the Bundesliga 2 table.
