Former football star endures home invasion and sustains injuries

In the midst of Italy's EM game against Spain, Italian football legend Roberto Baggio finds himself as a victim of a vicious home invasion. Sources suggest that during Thursday evening's game, five armed individuals busted into Baggio's villa near Vicenza.

Initially, reports surfaced that Baggio attempted to fend off these intruders, resulting in injuries. It's said that he was transported to the hospital due to a head wound that required numerous stitches.

The robbers, according to tales, held Baggio and his family captive in a room and searched the villa for cash, jewelry, and watches. The burglary is said to have lasted approximately 40 minutes. Once Baggio was certain that the intruders had fled, he managed to break open the door and contacted the police.

In an interview this morning, Baggio spoke through his manager, saying, "Such incidents can happen to anyone. I'm thankful that the violence I experienced only caused me stitches, bruises, and intense fear." Overcoming the shock is now his focus, as per the news agency Ansa. Thankfully, no one else was reportedly harmed besides the 56-time national player.

Recalling his glorious career, Roberto Baggio, garnered the title of vice-World champion with the Italian National Team in 1994. He played for prestigious clubs such as Juventus Turin, Inter Milan, and AC Milan. "The divine ponytail" clinched two Serie A titles and the UEFA-Cup in 1993. In the same year, he earned the FIFA World Player and European Footballer of the Year awards, equipping him with the Golden Ball. His contributions were crucial in Italy's qualification for the final of the Football World Championship in 1994. However, his missed penalty kick against Brazil took away the World Championship title from the Azzurri.
