Race in Trondheim - First World Cup victory: cross-country skier Carl triumphs

Cross-country skier Victoria Carl has celebrated her first World Cup victory.

The 28-year-old Olympic team sprint champion won sensationally over ten kilometers in the classic technique ahead of Rosie Brennan from the USA and Ebba Andersson from Sweden. Carl's lead over second place was 19.6 seconds after an impressive run.

"It's incredible," said Carl in the winner's interview. "I'm really very happy". At the awards ceremony for the top three in Trondheim, Norway, where the next World Championships will be held in 2025, she was practically all smiles. She couldn't hold on to all her prizes - a bouquet of flowers, a picture frame and a large piece of cheese from a sponsor - at the same time.

Carl established at the top of the world

A few minutes earlier, Carl had sunk to the ground at the finish line, completely exhausted. Her teammates were already congratulating her, but Carl still had to wait for the official result. On the chair for the current leader, she repeatedly slapped her hands over her face in disbelief. "I don't know how I did it," she said. "The skis worked really well today."

Carl is establishing herself more and more at the top of the world. The athlete from Zella-Mehlis finished sixth in the skiathlon on Saturday. She finished fifth in the sprint. Just last weekend, Carl finished third, her first podium place in an individual World Cup.

"This also motivates me for the Tour de Ski," she said after her victory. "Now I'll recharge my batteries over Christmas and then comes the Tour." The Tour de Ski takes place from December 30 to January 7 in Toblach (Italy), Davos (Switzerland) and Val di Fiemme (Italy).

Victoria Carl's victory in Trondheim marked her first triumph in a World Cup Nordic skiing event, placing her ahead of Rosie Brennan from the USA and Ebba Andersson from Sweden. This success further established Carl as a formidable competitor in the world of cross-country skiing, following her sixth place finish in the skiathlon and fifth-place sprint finish earlier in the season. Germany's Carl now has her sights set on the Tour de Ski, which takes place at various European locations from December 30 to January 7. Additionally, Carl will be defending her Olympic team sprint title during the upcoming Winter Olympics in the USA.
