A Game of Thrones Perspective of the Common People: The First Teaser for the New Spin-off 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' has Arrived

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - First teaser for new prequel is here

The second season of "House of the Dragon" has just ended - and already there are images for the next spin-off of "Game of Thrones". The streaming service Max has released via Instagram the first teaser for "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms".

The short clip introduces us to Dunk and Egg, the heroes of the new prequel to the fantasy hit. Dunk is a former squire who dons the armor of his deceased lord. As Ser Duncan the Tall, the clumsy giant takes part in a tournament. In the teaser, we see his awkward attempts to handle the sword. The 1.95 meter tall Irishman Peter Claffey (28) plays the "Heckenritter".

We also meet Egg in the teaser, Dunk's squire. His bald head shows why he carries this name (engl. Egg). The nine-year-old British actor Dexter Sol Ansell plays the boy who will later rule over Westeros as King Aegon V. Targaryen. In "Game of Thrones", Dunk and Egg are only mentioned by name.

"Game of Thrones" from the perspective of the small people

Parallel to his book series "A Song of Ice and Fire", George R. R. Martin (75) wrote three completed short novels about Dunk and Egg. "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is based on the first novella, which is called "The Hedge Knight" in German. It was published in 1998, two years after the first volume of "A Song of Ice and Fire" - long before the saga was filmed as "Game of Thrones".

The stories of Dunk and Egg take place after "House of the Dragon", but about 90 years before the events of "Game of Thrones". They tell the story of the fight for the throne from the perspective of the small people, as "House of the Dragon" series creator Ryan Condal emphasized to "Entertainment Weekly".

The Instagram post from Max about "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" sparked discussions among fans, with many expressing their excitement about witnessing the journey of Dunk and Egg, who are essentially 'Other' characters in the grand scheme of "Game of Thrones." While Dunk and Egg's adventures are set in a different era, their struggles and stories provide a refreshing and engaging perspective on the 'Other' characters often overlooked in the main series.
