Richard Gere - First regular series role
Richard Gere (74) is signing on for the first time to a long-term television series. According to "The Hollywood Reporter," the Hollywood symbol of the 1980s and 90s has joined "The Agency." Michael Fassbender (47) will take on the lead role in the spy series. Jeffrey Wright (58), nominated for an Oscar this year for "American Fiction," is also on board.
"The Agency" is a remake of the French series "Buro der Legenden" (2015-2020). "The Bureau" (international marketing title) aired in Germany over five seasons on RTL Crime and Joyn Plus+.
Richard Gere's TV Career: Why he's joining "The Agency"
The pinnacle of Richard Gere's career came at a time when it was still clear-cut between film and television for Hollywood stars. A performance on the small screen was considered a step back for them. Therefore, Gere made a long detour around a television commitment - despite the fact that the career of the "Pretty Woman" star had noticeably declined in the last 20 years.
An exception was the miniseries "MotherFatherSon" from 2019. In eight episodes, he played one of the leading roles. He also had occasional TV jobs as a voice actor, such as for "Freedom: A History of US" (2003) or as himself in "The Simpsons".

The protagonist of "The Agency" is the CIA man Martian, played by Michael Fassbender. After many years as an undercover agent, he is called to the London office of the American intelligence service. There, he encounters an old love, and their romance reignites.
"His career, his true identity, and his mission are played against his heart and plunge both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage," according to the official description. Richard Gere plays the role of Bosko, the head of the London office.
