Celine Dion's comeback plans - First Olympia, then Las-Vegas-Show?
Canadian singer Celine Dion (56) is reportedly set to make a bigger comeback than previously rumored. Although it has not been officially confirmed yet that the artist currently residing in Paris will perform at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, the next comeback rumor is making the rounds. Several US websites have learned that Dion is in the "final stages" of negotiations with the Casino Resorts World Las Vegas for her own residency show. According to the report, the negotiations have been ongoing for several months, with a possible start date being either at the end of 2024 or early 2025. "It's basically a done deal. She's going to do it," is quoted from an anonymous source.
A Las Vegas residency is considered one of the most lucrative performance formats for artists. For a predetermined number of shows, artists such as musicians and musicians, including most recently Adele (36), perform at the same venue. Dion first had this honor from 2003 to 2007 - her "A New Day..." concert series is still the most successful in Vegas history, generating nearly $400 million in revenue from over 700 shows. She returned to Vegas twice more at later dates for another residency.
Olympics: Dion or Gaga - or both?
Even French President Emmanuel Macron (46) spoke about the Dion issue at Olympia in a recent radio interview. "I would be thrilled if she could be there for the opening ceremony," said the 46-year-old. He remained tight-lipped about whether he knows the answer: "I won't reveal what Thomas Pesquet [the leader of the opening ceremony, Anm. d. Red.] and his teams have prepared." He promised, however: "There will be a surprise."
The start of the Paris Olympics is scheduled for the coming Friday (26. July). In addition to Dion's name, that of Lady Gaga (38), who is also currently in Paris, has been mentioned in relation to the opening ceremony. Fans of both musicians are hoping that the Olympic opening will feature a duet from these two world stars.
Dion withdrew from public life after her diagnosis. She recently gave raw insights into how the rare neurological condition affects her daily life in her documentary "I Am: Celine Dion". In the Amazon Prime docu-series, she also repeatedly expressed her desire to return to the stage one day.
