First defeat for Zverev at the ATP Finals
Alexander Zverev has missed out on an early place in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals. The Olympic tennis champion lost 6:7 (7:9), 4:6 to Russia's Daniil Medvedev and thus suffered his first defeat in Turin.
In his opening match, Zverev had prevailed in three sets against Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz from Spain.
Medvedev, on the other hand, is already through to the semi-finals after his second victory. The world number three converted his first match point after 1:45 hours. Alcaraz had previously won against the Russian Andrei Rublev largely effortlessly 7:5, 6:2 to celebrate his first ever victory at the ATP Finals.
The decision on who will progress to the next round will now be made on Friday. Zverev will then face Rublev, who has already been eliminated. If he wins, the 26-year-old will reach the semi-finals. Otherwise, he is dependent on the outcome of the match between Medvedev and Alcaraz.
Despite Alexander Zverev's victory over Alcaraz in his opening match, he experienced his first defeat at the ATP Finals against Daniil Medvedev. Medvedev, who has already secured a spot in the semi-finals, will look to build on his success in his next match.
