FIA hastily wipes away explosive accusations against Mercedes boss
It sounds like a story from a bad thriller. Secrecy is alleged to have been betrayed in Formula 1. The investigation into Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff and his wife is causing a stir. But only briefly. The world motorsport association comments on the matter.
The investigation into Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff and his wife Susie on the explosive suspicion of betrayal of secrets in Formula 1 is off the table. The FIA announced this evening that there are "no ongoing ethical or disciplinary investigations concerning any individual". The FIA pointed out that, as a regulatory authority, it had a duty to "uphold the integrity of motorsport worldwide".
On Tuesday evening, the FIA announced that it would investigate media reports that confidential information had been leaked to a Formula 1 team boss by an employee of the rights holder. The background to this was a report by a specialist portal about an alleged conflict of interest involving Wolff and his wife, about which other Formula 1 officials are said to have complained to FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. According to the report, Susie Wolff, who is employed by Formula 1 marketer FOM, is said to have access to confidential knowledge from the top of the racing series as Managing Director of the Formula 1 Academy and allegedly shared this with her husband.
In return, Toto Wolff may have informed his wife about discussions between the team bosses, so that this information in turn reached the rights holder. In a strongly worded statement, Mercedes rejected the allegations as unfounded and attacked the FIA for not informing the Formula 1 team about the investigation in advance. "It is disheartening that my integrity is being questioned in this way," wrote Susie Wolff in a statement on social media. The former racing driver suspected that the allegations were an attempt at intimidation and misogyny. The Formula 1 management stated: "We have full confidence that the allegations are false."
The nine other teams in motorsport's premier class published largely identical statements on Wednesday evening, in which they assured the world governing body that they had not lodged any complaints about a possible conflict of interest. The FIA confirmed in its statement on Thursday evening that "appropriate safeguards are in place to mitigate potential conflicts". The world governing body is also convinced that the FOM's compliance system is "robust enough to prevent unauthorized disclosure of confidential information".

The FIA closed the investigation into the allegations of confidential information leaks, as they confirmed there are no ongoing investigations concerning Toto Wolff or his wife. Regardless, Mercedes AMG's Toto Wolff and his wife Susie, both prominent figures in Formula 1, continue to showcase their love for the sport, with Toto leading the Mercedes AMG Formula 1 team and Susie active in the Formula 1 Academy.
