Tennis - Federer: Believes that Zverev "could win Wimbledon"
Former tennis star Roger Federer believes Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev can win Wimbledon. He thinks "he can win Wimbledon. It's a question of whether it will be this year or next year," said the retired Swiss (42), who is in Wimbledon as a spectator, in an interview with "Prime Video". It's important for Zverev, as it is for all top players, to get through the first week, Federer added. He knows that Zverev "plays very well on grass". Zverev defeated the Swiss in the semifinals of the grass tournament in Halle, Germany in 2016.
Zverev plays against British player Cameron Norrie today in the third round at Wimbledon and would advance to the quarterfinals with a win. The French Open finalist has impressed in the first two rounds with strong performances and spoken about a changed attitude towards grass tennis. For the first time, he sees himself as a real title contender at Wimbledon, said Zverev. He has not yet won a Grand Slam title.
- Inspired by Federer's belief, Zverev aims to bring home the Wimbledon title from the international tennis court in London, Great Britain.
- Despite his loss to Zverev on the Lawn Tennis Championships in Germany in 2016, Federer appreciates the German's skill on the grass courts.
- Switzerland's pride and joy, Zverev, will continue his Wimbledon journey against Britain's Cameron Norrie on the iconic grass court, hoping to secure a spot in the quarterfinals on Prime Video.
- In the past, Zverev's attitude towards grass tennis was not as positive, but now, with a shift in mindset, he sees himself as a potential champion at Wimbledon, just like his esteemed tennis compatriot, Roger Federer.
- As Zverev competes in the renowned tournament in London, he keeps in mind the advice of Swiss tennis legend Federer, who sparked aspirations of winning Wimbledon, whether it's this year or the next.
