This is the second such tragedy for Hainer in his immediate family: In 2006, his daughter Kathrin passed away a day after her 23rd birthday from a pulmonary embolism. A pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel in the lung and requires immediate hospital treatment.
It is reported that Angelika and Herbert Hainer met in Dingolfing, where the future Adidas CEO ran a pub during his business studies. The couple was married for over 30 years.
Hainer served as the CEO of Adidas from 2001 to 2016. In November 2019, he was elected President of FC Bayern, succeeding Uli Hoeneß.
