FC Bayern has not (yet) bidden farewell to Thomas Tuchel.
In the upcoming home game between FC Bayern Munich and VfL Wolfsburg, coach Thomas Tuchel's departure from the team will not be publicly acknowledged. Although Tuchel had been expected to leave since February, the club intends to wait until the season's end before organizing a grand farewell ceremony.
In the packed Allianz Arena, stadium spokesman Stephan Lehmann revealed that the team would not be saying goodbye to Tuchel and his coaching staff during the game. Instead, they aim to defend their second-place ranking in the table. The formal farewell for Tuchel will be held at a later date.
Before the match, Tuchel made it clear that he did not anticipate a grandiose send-off. "No need for flowers when breaking an early contract without winning any titles," he said bluntly. "Of course, I'm not personally satisfied. I signed with Bayern Munich to win championships." Despite his efforts, Tuchel could only manage to win one title out of the possible seven during his 15 months in charge, leaving the club with its first titleless season since 2012.
Despite multiple rejections from potential candidates such as Ralf Rangnick and Xabi Alonso, Bayern Munich still searches for a suitable replacement for Tuchel. A petition signed by thousands of fans showed their support for the coach, who had earlier been announced as leaving at the end of the season following a disappointing 3-2 loss at VfL Bochum.
Tuchel has not determined his plans for the future as he stated, "I have no idea. I will think about it calmly. It wasn't supposed to go this way, but things have been decided since February." The club's last opportunity to secure a championship under Tuchel's leadership vanished on the previous Wednesday when they suffered a devastating defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final.
