Did an England fan have to spend the night in the Schalke Arena?
Alone in Berlin, an English fan is believed to have woken up at Schalke Arena in the morning after the EM game against Serbia, according to the fan's TikTok video. However, UEFA has clarified the situation. In the meantime, the European football association is also investigating another case regarding the English team's match.
The TikTok video of the supposed overnight stay of a fan in the Schalke football arena, as claimed by UEFA, was not taken after England's EM game against Serbia. "It is clear that this video was not taken during the tournament or even in the last few weeks, as there is no signage, branding, or UEFA protocol elements in the stadium," the European Football Union stated in response to an inquiry from the German Press Agency.
Moreover, there are no visible UEFA markings on the field, which would be noticeable if the video had been taken in the hours following the game. In reality, no UEFA signs, posters, or markings appear in the video, but the fan mainly films his face.
The video was shared on Monday evening on the internet and was reported on by numerous media outlets. In the video, the man, who claims to have been left behind and spent the night in the stadium, says, "I've just woken up. It's four in the morning. I'm shaking." He then pans the camera through the empty arena, where the lights are still on.
Possible racist incident at England game
The video was posted on Monday by the account "away day lads." The caption read, "English fan who woke up at 4 am in the stadium today." It is unclear who created the video.
UEFA, according to media reports, is investigating a possible racist incident during England's EM game against Serbia. A fan of the Serbs is said to have made monkey noises towards English players. The fan was not arrested or expelled from the stadium, despite the presence of stewards and police, but UEFA is now investigating the incident, according to the "Mirror."
The UEFA itself did not comment specifically. In a statement, it was stated that the UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector would conduct an investigation into alleged discriminatory behavior. According to media reports, no English player heard the chants, and the English football association did not complain. UEFA has observers in every stadium.
The video claimed to show an English fan spending the night in Schalke Arena after the European Football Championship 2024 game against Serbia, as shared by the account "away day lads," was actually taken before the tournament or even in the past, as there are no UEFA markings, signage, or protocol elements present in the video.
Regardless of the stadium overnight lingerings, UEFA is currently investigating a potential racist incident involving English players during the same European Football Championship 2024 game against Serbia, where a Serbian fan allegedly made monkey noises towards the English team.
