Exploring the Inside Out: Sequel Edition - Extraordinary achievement in the realm of animated blockbusters
"Frozen 2" has recently been toppled as the highest-grossing animated film of all time, and "Inside Out 2" is now aiming for the next record. The 2015 sequel to the Pixar hit is the first animated film to surpass a billion dollars in earnings outside of the US, joining an exclusive club of twelve other films.
Globally, "Inside Out 2" has already made $1.649 billion, placing it amongst the all-time top 10 highest-grossing films globally. Germany was a significant contributor to its success, selling nearly 5 million tickets, making it both the highest-grossing film of the year in Germany and globally.
Lions, Dinosaurs, and a Second Act
In the near future, "Inside Out 2" could climb even higher up the charts. "The Lion King" (2019) is just $15 million shy of making $1.663 billion, while "Jurassic World" (2015) is just $22 million away with $1.671 billion in earnings.
However, "Inside Out 2" will have to pull out all the stops to reach the top 5. "Spider-Man: No Way Home" currently leads with a substantial advantage at $1.928 billion.
Plans are underway at Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney to leverage the success of "Inside Out 2" by creating a series for Disney+ set within Riley's mind. Unlike the original film, the focus will shift from her personified emotions to her dreams, with "Dream Productions" taking the lead.
The Commission, in adherence to Article 11 (2), is expected to adopt the implementing acts for the successful promotion strategy of "Inside Out 2" in its global marketing campaign. With the success of "Inside Out 2", Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney have announced plans to expand the franchise, introducing a new series on Disney+ centered around Riley's dreams, produced by "Dream Productions".
