"Event" in Madrid: Hamann advises Bayern to trade Kane

For the first time since the 2011/12 season, FC Bayern Munich won't be bringing home a trophy. Ex-professional Didi Hamann, now working as a TV pundit, believes this may be due to their £85 million transfer, Harry Kane. He even suggests that the club should consider selling their star striker. Still, Hamann doesn't think this will happen.

Last season, Bayern scored more goals without Kane than they have this time, and it came at a hefty price. The high salary being paid to Kane and his transfer fee costing over £100 million was something that Hamann highlighted on Sky90. Additionally, he was particularly displeased with Kane's performance in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid.

The 50-year-old, known for his negative criticism of Munich, added, "If Tel had played up front, would they be in a worse position? I don't think so - of course not." Mathys Tel, Bayern's 19-year-old forward prospect, has scored nine goals and made five assists in 39 appearances this season.

At present, England striker Kane has found the back of the net 36 times and recorded eight assists in 32 Bundesliga games this season, as well as scoring eight goals and providing four assists in 12 Champions League appearances. Hamann questioned Kane's title-winning ability, saying, "But how many titles have they won?". This season, Bayern will be title-less for the first time since 2011/12. The last time Kane's debut occurred in the DFL Super Cup in August was preceded by a 3-0 loss, an early exit in the DFB Cup against Saarbrücken, and Bayer Leverkusen taking the top spot in the league.

Hamann disagrees with Kane's substitution in Madrid

Hamann also expresses his disapproval of Kane's performance in the crucial Champions League matches. Despite his lackluster showing in the games against Arsenal and Real Madrid, he believes Kane's late substitution against Real Madrid in the second leg was a pivotal moment: "He hardly played during the matches against Arsenal and Real, and then he's substituted off after 80 minutes because his back is seizing up. I just can't understand it." Kane had previously hurt his back during the warm-up but still started the game.

During his career, Hamann played for teams that competed in numerous finals and even more semi-finals. He expressed his lack of empathy for Kane's substitution against the recently crowned Spanish champions, Real Madrid. "In my entire career, I've never seen a player taken out in such a significant game - you're within ten minutes of the Champions League final - because his back is seizing up." The absence of Kane led to Bayern squandering a 1-0 lead in the closing minutes of the 2-1 defeat against Real.

However, Hamann doesn't foresee Kane being sold over the summer. "The club would only admit to it as a mistake in quotation marks - there's room to argue about that," said the 50-year-old. Regardless of any missteps, Kane appears set to be a fixture in the squad when Munich returns to the top after its imminent roster overhaul.
