Evenepoel outpaces Pogacar in the time trial

On the 7th stage of the Tour de France, the cyclists race against the clock alone. World champion Remco Evenepoel has the fastest legs and takes the lead. The second-placed rider increases the gap to Tadej Pogacar - but the Slovenian continues to wear the yellow jersey.

World champion Remco Evenepoel won the first individual time trial of the 111th Tour de France. The 24-year-old Belgian from Team Soudal Quick-Step finished the challenging 25.3 kilometers on the seventh stage in Bourgogne in 28:52 minutes, ahead of front runner Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates/+0:12 minutes) and Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe/+0:34 minutes).

Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike/+0:37) finished fourth. The best German was time trial champion Nils Politt (Cologne/UAE Team Emirates/+1:57) in 29th place. In the overall standings, Pogacar now leads with 33 seconds over Evenepoel.

On the eighth stage on Saturday, it goes over 183.4 kilometers further north. Both a mass sprint and a winner from a breakaway group are possible.

More about that shortly.

Tadej Pogacar, despite the second-placed rider increasing the gap during the individual time trial, managed to maintain his lead in the Tour de France due to his exceptional cycling skills. The Tour de France, a prestigious event in the world of cycling and sports, saw Tadej Pogacar donning the yellow jersey again after the seventh stage.
