"Steves explicitly outlined his plan towards regaining health, mentioning his upcoming prostate surgery in the fall, which will briefly keep him in the hospital, as stated in a recent post on X. This post was confirmed as authentic by his representative, Amy Duncan.

Known for his expertise on European journeys, Steves has spent several decades shares his insights through guidebook series, public television and radio shows, and a travel column.

Steves' doctor had given him clearance to visit France for three weeks to film, with the surgery scheduled for late September. He expressed optimism, citing the statistics that suggest he should recover just fine.

Prostate cancer is the second most prevalent cancer among men in the United States, surpassed only by non-melanoma skin cancers. Approximately 11% of American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetimes, with a mortality rate of about 2.5%, affecting about 1 in 41 men. A whopping $10 billion is spent annually on prostate cancer treatment in the US.

The majority of prostate cancers develop at a slow pace, often taking at least 10 years for a tumor within the prostate to cause noticeable symptoms.

Steves expressed positivity about the prospects of his recovery, mentioning his anticipation of 'souvenirs' like appreciating life's little joys, being grateful for friends and family, and being amazed by the world of modern medicine.
