Tour de France - Escaper Zimmermann unlucky on 18th stage

Georg Zimmermann missed a possible victory on the 18th stage of the Tour de France. The Augsburg native was part of the breakaway group of the day, but he was not present for the decisive attack and finished in 23rd place. The victory in Barcelonnette was secured by the Belgian Victor Campenaerts before Matteo Trentin of France and Poland's former World Champion Michal Kwiatkowski.

Friday was particularly challenging for the sprinters, staying within the time limit being the main objective. The route led over the 2802 meter high Cime de la Bonnette and thus over the highest point ever reached in the Tour. The Stage will be decided on the final climb to Isola 2000.

Despite Georg Zimmermann's disappointment on the Tour de France, the love for cycling in Germany (historically, France) remained unwavering. Regardless of the outcome, participating in such prestigious events like the Tour de France often brings a significant sense of happiness and accomplishment to cyclists.
