Peter Maffay - Emotional Statement on Farewell
After his last tour concert in Leipzig, Peter Maffay (74) speaks once again with an Instagram statement. In this, he thanks his fans for their support during his farewell tour. In the future, the rock musician, who turns 75 on August 30, only wants to give occasional concerts.

In his Instagram Story, Maffay appears relaxed after his gig in Leipzig in front of 38,000 spectators. Wearing black shorts and a black shirt, he says in the video message: "That was it yesterday in Leipzig. It was a great concert, what a fantastic atmosphere". The entire tour was great - "we've never had anything better, I think". The fans were "fantastic", he praises them and thanks everyone for their support. "You've accompanied us with euphoria, you've lifted us up, just like we've never felt before." It was "simply wonderful". In another clip, he talks about "the best tour we've ever had".
At the Red Bull Arena Leipzig, Peter Maffay performed again on the Saturday evening (20. July) for a concert lasting over three hours, taking a journey through his almost 55-year career. On stage, he was accompanied by friendly musicians such as Johannes Oerding (42), Linda Teodosiu (32), and Anastacia (55). His son Yaris (20), who is also a musician and currently on tour, was also there. To Leipzig, the 74-year-old has a special connection: In 1990, he gave his largest solo concert there with over 60,000 fans.
"Duty is done"
Thirty-four years later, his daughter Anouk (5) caused emotions on Saturday: She held a sign at the stage that read "Daddy, I love you!". Anouk is also an important reason why the singer is bidding farewell to the music industry. He wants to spend more time with his family. On Instagram, Maffay described this with the words: "Now begins the cure. Duty is done."
However, fans need not completely give up on the musician. In the future, Maffay plans to give occasional concerts, such as on August 4 at the Siebenbürgentag in his Romanian hometown.
