Elena Lilik is fighting for silver in her Olympic debut
Thanks to a sensational run in the final: Elena Lilik wins silver in the C-1 women's event at her Olympic debut. The former world champion celebrates her biggest career success so far and redeems the German slalom canoeists.
Former world champion Elena Lilik secured the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris and redeemed the German slalom canoeists. The 25-year-old debutant kept her nerves in the C-1 women's final at the Vaires-sur-Marne water sports stadium and had to settle for second place behind the outstanding Olympic champion Jessica Fox (Australia) after a flawless run.
This is Lilik's biggest career achievement. In 2021, she won the world championship title in Bratislava. Additionally, the 25-year-old brought the first medal to the German Canoe Association (DKV) in Paris.
Tokyo Olympic champion Ricarda Funk and Sideris Tasiadis missed the medal ranks on the first two final days. Funk finished eleventh in a dramatic final run after missing a gate, while Tasiadis missed the podium by just 0.024 seconds. Three years ago, the slalom canoeists won a medal in each of the four competitions.
The athletes of the DKV still have chances to win more medals. On Thursday, the C-1 men's event with Olympic debutant Noah Hegge is on the program, followed by the decisions in the new Olympic discipline of kayak cross. Funk and Lilik will compete for the women, while Hegge and Stefan Hengst will compete for the men.
The Olympic Games 2024 in Paris is the next major competition for the German Canoe Association (DKV). Elena Lilik's impressive performance at the Olympic Games in Paris this year has boosted the team's hopes for a strong showing in the future Olympic Games 2024 in Paris.
