Electric Audi E-Tron GT delivers superior performance and longer range.

Audi's E-Tron GT is undergoing a makeover, aiming to surpass its solid forerunner. The alterations are remarkable in terms of performance, battery, charging ability, and suspension, although the exterior changes are subtle. New models hitting the market include a "Performance" version of the sedan and a beefed-up limousine. Price tags kick off at €126,000.

The S E-Tron, the base model, packs a power boost for both engines, culminating in a combined 500 kW/679 PS. The RS model boasts a slightly stronger boost and now offers a maximum temporary output of 630 kW/863 PS. Topping the range is a new variant with a whopping 680 kW/925 PS, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a jaw-dropping 2.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. The enhanced power is mainly attributed to a advanced PSM-e electric drive unit at the front axle and upgraded power electronics.

The revamped battery is key to the performance enhancements, with a primary focus on addressing the often-mentioned range issue: up to 609 WLTP kilometers, a leap of roughly 100 kilometers despite the beefier motors. Net capacity increases from 83.7 to 97 kWh, thanks to new materials, a revised structure, and an optimized cooling system.

The battery's maximum charging capacity also gets a boost, ascending from 270 to a robust 320 kW. In ideal conditions, a full charge from 10% to 80% should now take just 18 minutes. Audi offers a more value-driven and durable charging curve that also sustains high levels for longer.

The suspension gets a makeover, adopting technology from Audi's similarly refurbished sibling, the Porsche Taycan. The steel suspension previously used has been swapped for a two-chamber air suspension, with the optional upgrade to an "Active Suspension" system that maintains the vehicle body almost level.

In future, there will be three variants.

Optical changes are less striking compared to the notable performance upgrades. Tweaks include minor adjustments to the front to distinguish the power levels and interior updates such as new materials, modified seats, and a flatter steering wheel.

Audi hopes the fundamental technical overhaul will stimulate interest in its previously less successful premium electric vehicle. Mainly, the enhanced range could alter the competitive landscape, especially contrasted with the closely related Porsche Taycan.

However, this revamped model comes with a relatively hefty price hike. The entry-level model now costs €20,000 more than its predecessor.

The interior of the Audi E-Tron GT has also been redesigned.
